I found some algebra slideshares that looked good. There were some creative presentations too. I thought I would search for something other than Math presentations, and came across this one from Iowa. It caught my attention because the creator does not have a favorable impression of my home state, which makes me very sad. But seeing pictures of the University of Iowa HAWKEYES, some pigs and lots of corn, I felt better!My presentations are very boring in comparison. I will explore this site more and see what creative ideas there are and share more later!!

I looked at Bubbl.us. I practiced concept mapping. I think I will use it when we start our next chapter on fractions. I made a sample map using fraction words and concepts. It seems easy to use and is a nice visual for the students. we can add vocabulary and other concepts as we go along.I also looked at the flashcards site. It looks like a good place to create flashcards of vocabulary, concepts, symbols and other things. This could also be very useful to me!I didn't bother to look at the calendar. I figured between our Google calendar, the one on my phone, plus the old-fashioned "paper" one I have, I do not need it. There was also a "milk list" site, but again, I have a Memo feature on my phone, and my phone is usually with me to help me remember those things.

We are already using Google Docs for some other things at school, so that is helpful. It is nice that others can update and comment on the documents. I think that there are obviously many more ways that we can be using this feature. I created a "fake" presentation (because my real ones are saved on my flash drive upstairs), and sent it to my teammates. They could edit it and also use it in their classrooms. This will save on paper copies and like the video said, it can be updated for everyone to see immediately. It would be great to use in a class if you are writing a paper or working on a project. All group memebers can view the most recent copy of the document. As a teacher, I could post my documents (notes, powerpoints, etc) and allow my students access. Not sure if they would be able to edit those things, though!

I was having problems getting onto Delicious, so I moved ahead, then revisited it, so am now ready for thing 15. I think it is easier to work with my feeds. I added the Free press feed, and tried to add some personal ones from family, but needed special permission, then found one was in wordPress,and not sure if that blog would feed. Will need to investigate further. I stated before that I don't have time to be checking these feeds. Maybe now with the newspaper site, it might be different, or once I get my family's posts to work, I might look at it more often, and be interested in something else that I see posted.

I think that social bookmarking is very helpful. In the old school way of teaching, you closed your door and did not share or work with other teachers...didn't want them stealing our ideas...now, it has changed, thankfully! It is sad that it seems that we are always reinventing the wheel. This is nice because not only can I save the websites that I like in one spot, I can share them with others, or even look at others saved sites for other ideas. This will help enhance productivity so I don't have to keep researching for the same things!

Tagging is a good way to organize and find things quickly. I am anxious to see the Delicious website. I do find websites that I like and want to save them, but then don't know where to go or how to do it. I am hoping that this will help with the organization. Tagging is used in all the social networking. The Flickr's tags were helpful when searching for particular subjects. The advantages of tagging is again that it is helpful when searching. A disadvantage would be that maybe the topic you want might be intrepreted differently and bring up things you didn't expect. Whe assigning tags, you might need to think of all the ways it could be labeled, or be organized ant think ahead on what you might find to be the most useful.

I put a math game widget on my blogpage. I also added the swimming fish. I thought they were fun to watch while I was on my page. I added a calendar, thinking it would be useful to have it handy. I am getting better with embedding code. Thank goodness for the "cut and paste" feature, and also direct links tho things. I remember having to write things down and retype them. I do belong to Facebook. When I first joined, I spent hours looking for people, looking at pictures of them, reading things they posted, etc. I was kind of fun "spying" on them. Of course, I put "privacy" features on my account so no one could see too much about me! I tried not to be friends with "everyone", especially people who I haven't seen in years (high school) and I don't know much about them now.. I just don't want too much information about me out there. There are some friends that I have reconnected with through Facebook, but for the most part, I feel like I just glance at what people write, occasionally commenting. Sometimes I feel that communicating through Facebook is kind of the "easy way out", like birthday greetings and sending messages. I think kids like Facebook because they feel somewhat safe to say things that aren't face-to-face, and it is a great avenue to express themselves, although, as with some adults, too, may not always be appropriate. I am "friends" with my cousin who is a sophomore at the University of Iowa...it kind of bothers me to see some of the things she posts, talks about, pictures she puts up of herself and friends and some of the language they use. Yes, I was in college once too, and am sure I would have done some of the same things, but not for the world (or esp my family) to see.

I have been getting comments from Pete for a few weeks now. It was nice to get comments on some of the things I wrote, knowing that someone actually took the time to read it. I hope that others felt the same when they got my little comments. The "comments" feature is a good discussion tool and can be very useful.

There are obviously alot of videos on YouTube. I do need to access it more. I am sometimes worried about the content and tend to use Teacher Tube if I am looking for something for school. I have seen the Ma and Pa Kettle video before and actually had it posted on my Blackboard site a few years ago. I looked at a few other ones tonight and need to use some of them as "clips" duing my lessons.

I tried to make another cover where I could add my own text, but I wasn't sure how to format it. the text was all over and parts of it were cut off.

The Flickr mashups were fun. I made my son's name with the letters, made a picture with images of flowers, and did the color selection which picked the pictures. These were fun ways to work with images.

It was very easy to upload the pictures to Flickr. It makes me nervous to post pictures of personal things for everybody to see due to privacy. It is another way to find pictures of images. It would also be a good way to share pictures with family and friends, as long as there are privacy settings used. Students could post artwork.

This was much easier...I used my home computer instead of Mark's at school...didn't feel comfortable downloading all sorts of pictures and saving them on his computer...you all missed the beautiful picture of the Old Capitol on The University of Iowa's campus, the pork tenderloin sandwich from a small diner in my hometown of Iowa Falls, along with a picture of the local Wal-Mart, and the butter cow from the Iowa State Fair. The rights were reserved on all of them, so was not able to use them. I picked this random picture of a volcano because the photographer was a man named Aaron, which is my son's name.

I guess that subscribing to different blogs is a good thing, but I don't see myself reading them everyday. I have a hard enough time reading and responding to personal and work emails, let alone find time to look at blog posts. I have family members with their personal blogs and I don't even subscribe to them. I will have to make a point to look at the different blogs I have subscribed to. The frequency of the posts might make a difference, and as I do with emails (and facebook), I will have to do a quick glance to see if there is anything important or interesting. If I do find something worthwhile, I will share, but know that I personally get overwhelmed when people start sending me all sorts of things, so will keep "sharing" to only really important information.

This is useful to get updates on each of the blogs. To be honest,I don't know if I will have time to read them. I don't have a lot of experiences with blogs, so I learned what the "subscribe" button looks like. I am anxious to find other blogs that might be more specific to what will help me most.

I think that my blog could be a useful communication tool with students and parents. I can link it to my classroom website. I think that students would like to leave comments related to information posted on the blog or my website. The monitoring feature is important so that inappropriate comments are not shared. I used Blackboard for a few years and monitored the posts there.

I wanted to learn the 23 things to help with my technology skills. Believe it or not, back in my "early" teaching years, I was the technology guru at my school. I conducted technology workshops for the other teachers in my building. Then, I moved to Detroit, taught in a school with NO technology, and got left behind. I think the 23 things will help me get back with the times and teach me fun and useful things to use in my classroom and also in my life!

The students we teach have a great deal of knowledge when it comes to technology. We need to be able to "compete" on their level and present our lessons and classrooms in a way that will not only get their attention but help them excel.
